"Cells"

During my tutorials the individual rolled up sheets i tightly rolled up into tubes were focused on a lot, I had used them in the weaving process but i did not like the look of that piece and looking at inhabit design's way of using newsprint, so i feel that i should use the thin tubes as my point of reference and starting point to make my chair.
This is a step by step process on how the "cells" are made;

inhabit design

I was looking online to see what other designers were able to come up with, working with newspapers. I found this design company called inhabit design where they had come up with a bench which had no frame work and showed that individual leaves of newsprint treated with an adhesive had the strength to carry serious weight and this is something that i want to achieve.

I think that i would like to make something along the lines of this example but i will change it to fit with some of the elements i have made from previous testers.

first chair

I tried making a small fold away chair, where i used the frame work to hold the weaved paper. i simply covered the existing frame with newsprint but i wasn't sure that this was a good idea and that it should be completely paper. When taking my chair to a tutorial i got the same response that it should be completely made from paper and that it did look craft. From this i had a really good idea about what i wanted to make.

mini evaluation

looking at what i am working towards i can see that i need to find some artiest inspiration to really help define what i am designing. I have been looking at up-cycled and creating my own work to help come up with something both modern in looks as well as a product that is functional all from re-cycled newspapers.
I need to really get to grips with the newspapers and what i can and cannot achieve in terms of strength and structure and how i can join them together in a way that looks good and is strong.

I have been looking at some traditional craft forms like weaving, i have tried recreating it on a small scale to see about the strength and aesthetics of the process. 

I think that this has properties that i would like to keep but i think it looks too craft and i would like it to look very modern. 

From my testers i have decided to try and figure out what it is i am going to be making, I am first going to create some simple joints and ways to fasten the paper together and see if i can come up with shapes that look good and help me to come up with something to create.

with these simple shapes i cave come to the conclusion that they do not have enough structural shape and i need to expand and make something a little more complex to aide me in coming up with something.

Testers

after researching into the three possible ideas i have chosen, i felt that the idea of working around recycled household items fits best with my initial idea of taking low budget waste and turning it into new useable products, rather than thanking things like car parts and turning them into furniture. 

Here i have just played around with random ideas of tables i could make but i do not have enough direction with what it is i am making. There are some elements of the table that i really like and utalise the papers strength.

I need to figure out if this is going to be a piece of design, art or craft. I also think that working with newspapers would be really interesting as the print is very aesthetically pleasing when wrapped up as you cannot quite make out what the articles say and that small sections of colour show threw too.
