For this project i started thinking i wanted to create a mixed piece of a 2D element and a 3D element. But through conversations with tutors i saw that i was attempting two projects and i wouldn't end up with a strong enough piece. I then set out to produce a 3D piece that was biased around a human skull x-ray. I was looking at the multiple layers and how that putting them together still showed the full skull. in my previous project i had produced a range of chairs and this is where i started my next part of my research. I went on to developing this into a layered chair that i was planning to make out of acrylic sheeting and would be situated in a bar so it could be lit from below. The idea of my piece having to be a chair/ stool was put into question and i had a major break threw and developed my designs to be a chandelier. The visual affect was very similar but it meant i could play with light far more and create my piece on a larger scale. I then worked on ironing out all the issues with the skull designs them selves to the point of being ready for production.
Throughout this project i have found that the development of the piece has only furthered the chandelier in the way it works and in the way it looks. I would have liked to have spent more time developing the light aspect of the piece for this project but my time was taken up by necessary major development in the ideas part of my piece. I will be continuing this project for my final module, where i will be finishing off development with my lighting as well as how each skull is attached to the ceiling board and ho everything connects together plus electronics and producing all the skull layers.
If i were to produce this project again i would have thought threw how the chandelier works with the light more so i could design my piece around the light more. Also i would look into alternatives to the skull and how a variety of other imagery could change the feel of the piece.
